Team Sommerville Eventing October Update

WINTER IS COMING!

With a few events left we are winding down on the yard. One of the few events our team had left was Askham Bryan with Hanslough Bob. We turned up first and we flew through with a brilliant double clear to take the win from being the first horse through the section! Soon after Bob was snapped up by his new owner. We wish them all the happiness and good times that we have had with this wonderful horse. With numerous events at BE100 level in just a short space of time being with us, we know he is going to have a sparkling future!

New winter activities have come up, James has been heading out ‘cubbing’. We take Rocky for the exercise and to create a good experience with travelling across the country over fences. He took to it like a duck to water! James got a little damp but both came home thrilled with the successful experience.

Our horses with their wind-down have been having their woolly coats grown and given a good check over by our top team including Tim Jarman, and give them an MOT before their holidays after all their fantastic efforts over the season!

After a fantastic Osberton for all of our horses and especially VSS Mission Impossible, ‘Tom’ and his wonderful owners Mark and Sarah Whitney spoilt our head girl, Lucinda to an amazing Spa day at Swinton Park in Masham, North Yorkshire. Lucinda is more use to muddy fields and bathing/spa treating horses, it was a wonderful change for herself. She enjoyed a very relaxing massage and used all of the heat therapy rooms at the spa… even though the heat became a little too much she had to remove herself, haha!!!

Norton Disney was our final event of the 2017 season. Master Ramiro was a superstar again, with another fantastic dressage and a double clear he finished off the season with style coming 1st (again). He is now having a well-deserved rest.

Carlanstown Monbeg ‘Baby Buster’ was also another super star, producing a nice test and a fab double clear to come 5th! Lots of exciting potential to come with this five-year-old, watch this space.
Now the horses who have evented in the 2017 season are having some quiet time, it is time to bring the young horses into work and start their education. They have so far been behaving very well… Lucinda is covered in lots of hair from clipping the woolly bears!

Next for team Sommerville we will be looking forward to Christmas and looking for the next lot of super stars to join our amazing team!

Until then….KEEP FEEDING LOTS OF FIBRE BEET! Especially in these winter months!
