The fifth Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C qualifying competition took
place at The Royal Norfolk Show 2012 in Norwich, Norfolk. The class
attracted 38 eligible starting combinations, all hoping to claim
their direct qualification into the Championship Final.
From the total number of starters, 18 combinations went clear in
the first round over the 14 fences to make it through to the final
jump off. With only three direct qualifying places available, all
of the remaining combinations were hoping to produce a double clear
to put them in contention for Championship Final qualification.
From the 18 combinations that went through to the jump off, five
managed to produce the all important double clear, meaning that the
allocation of the three direct qualifying places went down to the
times.
The overall winner of the qualifier was 47-year-old Tim Davies
from Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk and he won the class on board
Jessica Tillett's seven-year-old black gelding, Alure III. Tim and
Alure III were the only combination to go clear in under 37.60
seconds and their time secured them the win and their place in the
Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final.
Second place went to 33-year-old Helen Tredwell from Finmere,
Buckinghamshire. Helen rode eight-year-old liver chestnut mare,
Concordia II, owned by Philip Tuckwell. Helen produced her double
clear in a time of only 38.33 seconds to secure her place in the
Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final.
The combination in third place took the last direct qualifying
place and this spot
was filled by 23-year-old Tim Page from Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk.
Tim produced
his double clear in a time of 38.37 seconds aboard Steady the Helm,
a seven-year-old bay gelding owned by William Stewart.
The Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship will be held
at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) on Sunday 7th
October 2012.
